1. Where can I install an EV charging point?
You can install one at a private home, in a private garage or in a parking space within a communal residential garage.
2. Do I need permission from the residents’ association to install one?
You must inform the residents’ association. In many cases, formal authorisation is not required; you only need to notify the president or property manager.
3. Can I install a charger if my parking space is rented?
Yes, but you will need authorisation from the owner of the parking space. You can then include this authorisation when notifying the residents’ association.
4. Do I need to increase my contracted electricity supply?
Not necessarily. With chargers equipped with load balancing (dynamic power control), installation may be possible without increasing your contracted power. However, this will depend on your electricity consumption and the conditions of the installation.
5. How long does an installation take?
It depends on each case, but in many homes the installation can be completed in less than one day.
6. How much does it cost to install an EV charging point?
The cost varies considerably depending on the type of charger, its power, the location of the meter, the distance to the charging point and other factors. You can find an estimated price in our contact section.
7. Are there any grants or subsidies available?
Yes. For example, the MOVES III Plan may cover up to 70% of the cost for individuals and up to 80% in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, calculated on the eligible amount excluding VAT.
8. What types of home chargers are available?
There are wall-mounted chargers (wallboxes) for domestic use, as well as more advanced units with load balancing or dynamic power control. They all have an app that lets you control the charger and monitor consumption from your phone.
9. Can anyone else use my charger without permission?
No. Modern chargers can include activation and deactivation systems and are usually configured for the owner’s exclusive use.
10. How long does it take to receive the subsidy?
It depends on the autonomous community. It may take several months or even more than a year. Funds are not always paid out immediately.
11. Do I have to declare the grant on my tax return?
Yes. The grant is generally considered a capital gain and must be declared in the relevant section of your income tax return.
12. What charging “mode” do I need at home?
Mode 3 charging is recommended for home use (semi-fast charging, normally AC up to around 22 kW), as Mode 4 (high-power direct current) is not suitable for most homes because it is ultra-fast charging and such chargers are typically found at rapid charging stations.
13. Can I install a charger if I have solar panels or renewable energy?
Yes. Many modern chargers can be integrated with solar PV installations and include dynamic power control to combine vehicle charging with other household electricity consumption.
14. Does an EV charger require maintenance?
Yes, although maintenance requirements are generally low. It is advisable to check extreme temperatures, the charger software, the cable and charging lead, particularly when the unit is installed outdoors.
15. What support do I get after installation?
You should have a charger warranty, after-sales service and technical support to resolve any questions or issues that may arise after installation.
